Diada Familiar Montclar Mestral 2018

Pictured here is a scene from yesterday's Diada Familiar at Mestral, with Jorge Fuentes and Gerard Poncell battling it out in the quick-round basketball tournament.
Unfortunately, the weather wasn't as good  as it could have been, so more indoor and covered space was used for the various events of the day. The porch hosted the bar, bouncy castle and table games, with the dining room being used for lunch and the preparation of the paella!
Despite the weather, the day was well-attended and was enjoyed by all. We look forward to next year's event!

Pilgrimage Day

Friday 11th May was the day chosen this year for the whole school to go out on our annual pilgrimage. The boys from 4th, 5th and 6th Primary started their day in Montmaneu at the chapel of the Mother of God of the Cross, where we said a rosary.
This was followed by a stop at Montfalcó Murallat for a mid-morning snack and a drawing session at this picturesque village on a hill, which has beautiful views of the surrounding area.
The final stop was for lunch and free time at Sant Guim de Freixenet. Pictured here is part of the great extension of solar panels, which can be seen nearby. We were very lucky with the weather, which made the day even more enjoyable!

Working together!

Pictured here are one of the cooperative teams from 3rd ESO working on their latest English writing project, which is on the theme of inventors.
They are learning that if they work together they will achieve better results. In addition, it will make their own lives easier as they will be sharing the work!

This is our last goodbye: 'in medio virtus'

The graduation of 2nd Batxillerat took place this year on Thursday 3rd May. The evening started with Holy Mass, followed by the awards ceremony.
This year's group have taken the name of 'in medio virtus', meaning that virtue is in the moderate, not in the extreme position. It implies the need for balance in life.
Their sponsor is a former teacher of Mestral, Sr Josep Mª Calafell, who also spoke of the importance of having a positive attitude towards how we conduct our lives.
The ceremony was followed by an informal buffet, with the director of Mestral, Sr Jordana, proposing a toast to the boys, their families and their future lives.

Arts Evening in Mestral

Our annual Arts Evening took place on Wednesday 25th April. It included some entertaining sketches which 6th Primary had prepared, as well as performances of 'What a Wonderful World' and 'I'd Like to Teach the World to Sing' by our school choir.
Sr Ortolà presented the various prizes for the St. Jordi poetry and painting competition. Pictured here is Andreu Martínez, reciting his winning poem entitled 'Montserrat'.

Rain, rain go away..

1st ESO have been contributing to our school allotment in their Technology lessons with Sr. Pérez. Pictured here is a watering system designed by Marc Pérez and Alex Alonso . It features a wooden support and an old bicycle wheel with a plastic water bottle which acts as a slow-drip irrigation system - not that much irrigation has been needed recently with the amout of rain we've had!
However, we do hope to see a few lettuces appearing before too long, if and when the sun comes out!

Personal attention

Being able to devote time and attention to our pupils is an essential of our educational ethos here at Montclar Mestral.
Sr Nieves is one of our newer members of staff. His duties include giving individual tutoring to students. He is pictured here with a primary student who is receiving help with pronunciation and reading comprehension.
